Frederick County Workforce Services

Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary


The FMH Auxiliary is the principal volunteer organization for FMH and has a long
lineage in supporting the mission of FMH. The FMH Auxiliary is always welcoming new volunteers to provide support:

  • Select Seconds Thrift Shop – needs clerks. Various days/times available.
  • Volunteer greeters to assist patients at FMH Rosehill and FMH's new Crestwood
    location. These volunteers assist outpatients who are waiting for tests/procedures/appointments.

 

  • Birth Place Information Desk

 

  • ICU – 1pm-5pm Saturdays

 

  • Gift Shop
  • Cancer Treatment Center – Flexible hours, weekdays

Literacy Council of Frederick County
 


The Literacy Council of Frederick County, a non-profit that teaches adults to read and write, holds free workshops to train new volunteer tutors.  Many adults in the Frederick community are anxious to learn to read.  No teaching experience is necessary.  Volunteers are trained and certified for free.  Students are taught to read and write at no cost as well.  For more information or to volunteer, contact the council at 301-600-2066, or

Maryland State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped


The Maryland State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped is a free library service for people who are unable to read standard print.  The library mails books, magazines, and movies in a variety of formats directly to the individual's home.  All services are free, including the use of a book player and postage.  For more info, call 410-230-2443. 

  


  
Wags for Hope


Wags for Hope is looking for animal team volunteers to go out into the community and share their pets with others. This includes visiting nursing homes, assisted living facilities and other similar organizations. In addition, the agency has begun visits with the R.E.A.D. ® (Reading Education Assistance Dogs) where volunteers take their animals to schools and libraries to help encourage and teach children to read. Some training and certification is necessary for each level of visiting, but Wags for Hope will help the volunteers reach their goal. For more info, Click Here.

 


 

Volunteer Frederick – Volunteer Management Training


Whether you are brand new to volunteer management or an old pro, Volunteer Frederick’s Volunteer Program Management Training Series will help sharpen your skills, and connect you with other area volunteer program managers. The training series provides in-depth, low-cost, local training workshops, as well as volunteer manager networking and discussion groups throughout the year. Workshops are $25 per person.
