For 40 years, In The Streets has been a beloved Frederick tradition, filling Market Street and Carroll Creek Park with excitement.

The festival kicked off in 1983, right after major renovations had closed Market Street for several months. Once the work was done, Mayor Ron Young decided to celebrate the reopening with a festival for the whole community, aiming to spark renewed interest in downtown. Since the event took place right in the street, naming it “In The Streets” was a no-brainer. The very first festival drew around 10,000 people, and today, it attracts over 75,000 attendees.

In The Streets continues to invite everyone to explore historic downtown Frederick, offering a fantastic mix of food, entertainment, art, and local non-profit resources that showcase the vibrant spirit of Frederick County.
